--- Artist Biography ---
Well I guess it all started in Portugal around 1971 but there wasn’t much happening in then. When I was about 4 y-o my folks decided that it was time to pack it all up and move to Canada. I guess it was a good idea considering that there was still some broo-ha-ha going around about some Salazar guy. We moved to Ontario a bit before I turned 5. At that age nothing is supposed to matter and you are not supposed to notice many differences with your surroundings but many things did matter and there most certainly were differences. The following year it was time to pack up again. This time we moved to Quebec and boy was it cold. REAL COLD! Took me about 30 something years to get used the cold... As a teenager I began taking an interest in music and started playing the guitar. I started a classical training and later went on to playing in rock & metal bands (kewl!). It wasn’t until the late 90’s that I was introduced to sequencers & samplers. Around 1993-1994 I joined perhaps the last band that I would ever play with and really began exploring with the whole sequencing thing. At that time, I had started playing with two fellows that would later become “Great Deal of Noise”. These guys had been studying in cinema and the music that they wrote sounded so soundtrack[esque]. At about the same time I was working on a different project. I was writing music with a friend of mine on his computer. I seemed pretty strange then “writing music on a computer”. We were trying to write a full album with a “Tim Burton[esque] – Nightmare Before Christmas[esque] (ya again with the [esque]) but we never really completed it. A slight case of bombing so to speak (no sisters reference please). We were short about 90-95 % actually. My buddy moved around quite a bit and we pretty much lost touch. We never worked on that again. Not long after I left the band thinking that I could do much better on my own....was I wrong! The time consuming perfectionism that I had accused my band mates of losing themselves in, would later consume my time equally if not a hundred fold. I went on to try things on my own using my own equipment, playing around with sound waves, LFOs, etc. I went about the whole parameters of a sound, cutting them up, stretching, completely changing a sound until a new sound would emerge. A good year had passed when I realized I had done nothing but played around with sounds, trying to make them perfect and had nothing to show for it. It was time to go back and start all over. It was time to finally compose & write music that would finally be published or in the very least be shared with others... Copyright © 2008 Nature Morte | All rights reserved | Soundial WebDesign |
